WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

I live for art and design. I’m happy to have a job where I can do both so it doesn’t feel like work. My personal mission is to stay positive and do what I love to do.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I am an Assistant CAD Designer at LF USA. I create prints for the design team, mainly for swimwear. A professor in college advised me to draw people in their natural environments. I took that advice and started drawing people on the train and haven’t stopped since. I decided to turn my sketches into prints and that’s how it all started for me.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

I would say my proudest moment this year is getting the opportunity to work with Bucketfeet. The company is an artist based business that gives people the opportunity to submit their designs to be featured on a shoe. My design was chosen and my shoe will be coming out Spring 2015 at www.bucketfeet.com.

Bonus: 20% OFF with code Bolt20 on Bucketfeet at checkout.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO FOR YOUR GOWTH IN THE INDUSTRY?

I would like to shout out all of the people who have ever given me advice or taught me a skill. I couldn’t have gotten where I am without them. I appreciate the fact that there are people who follow their dreams and point me in directions that would help me accomplish mine. It’s a selfless act and I hope to be able to do that for others.

WHO INTRODUCED YOU TO ADHESIVE? WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST EVENT?

One of my goals was to have tote bags and tops sold at the MoMA gift shop. I searched for MoMA buyers on LinkedIn and came across Brian Bergeron's page. I didn’t have the premium account with LinkedIn so I googled him to see if he had a personal site. Information about him cofounding Adhesive came up and I decided to attend a meeting.

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

I’m passionate about learning and growing as a photographer, taking on new challenges, and working with people who are great at what they do. I first picked up a camera as a photojournalist, and I’ve always loved the way that it allowed me to get out and explore the world and learn new things.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I primarily shoot advertising photography. I got my start as a documentary photographer, shooting for newspapers, later moving to magazines, and finally commercial photography. It feels like things have come full circle, with lots of my advertising clients looking for story telling work that feels not to far from the approach to photography in my days of working as a photojournalist.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

One of my proudest achievements of 2014 was pulling off the most extensive project of my career on a shoot that spanned 17 different cities over 6 weeks, Whirlwind American Tour with Chase.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO FOR YOUR GOWTH IN THE INDUSTRY?

There are so many people who have supported me, offered inspiration, feedback and advice. If I had to name just one person today, it would be art buyer Jamie Appelbaum. She’s been a great mentor and I am incredibly grateful for her help and advice.

WHO INTRODUCED YOU TO ADHESIVE? WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST EVENT?

Nick Onken first introduced me to Adhesive, and the first event I attended was one of the Adhesive’s first, circa 2010.

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

Design can and does change lives. Able Made is a personal mission of mine to make an impact with responsible manufacturing and empowering underserved communities. The sale of our products fund social projects like, Ucal McKenzie Breakaway Foundation.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING AND HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I am a designer by trade and currently working on my business, Able Made. I started my career in project management at a creative agency and simultaneously built my portfolio and education in design. I really love to create from the ground up to bring an idea to life.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

In addition to Able Made, I teach a Design and Social Entrepreneurship course at School of Visual Arts in NYC. The course focuses on how design and design thinking can be applied to social systems, awareness campaigns, and problem solving to help improve the lives of others. I'm proud to work with a talented group of students who are discovering that their passions can be married to their work if they want it to. Work in design no longer needs to just be a paycheck or way to pay your rent or mortgage.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO FOR YOUR GOWTH IN THE INDUSTRY?

Brian Bergeron! He was my teacher at the design program in New England School of Art and Design. And, when I moved to NYC in 2011, he was incredibly supportive. I had the opportunity to work with him at MoMA when I first arrived and I will be forever grateful for that experience.

WHO INTRODUCED YOU TO ADHESIVE? WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST EVENT?

Again, Brian Bergeron! My first event was in Brooklyn last year where I met many people that I now work with. Adhesive has a vibrant and inspired community and I'm looking forward to meeting more people through the network!

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

I live for unique experiences. I love life. I want to see as much of this world as I can before I die. Photography helps me do this and is a means of recording, documenting and instigating these adventures.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I'm a professional photographer, shooting for 14 years now. I've been artistically inclined all my life. First, it was sketching then painting, shooting and the latest, directing. I got into college with a painting scholarship and changed to photography. For me, it was all a really natural progression from one genre of art to the next.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT IN 2014?

This year was a very blessed one for me. I had a lot of great clients and great shoots; Esquire Network, Danika Patrick for Go Daddy, Kylie and Kendall for Steve Madden, shooting and directing a bunch of fun stuff for Oxygen Network but my most proud moment is when I went to Bosnia to document the mine clearing and flood recovery with More Than Nothing. After that trip, I had a show of the work that I made there at Kinfolk 94. We raised $6,000 from artwork sales, which went directly to the charities in Bosnia.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO IN THE INDUSTRY?

I have a really great circle of friends. We support each other and inspire each other. Most of my friends are creatives. I want to shout out Chad Griffith, Brooke Nipar, Matt Salacuse, and Kwaku Alston to name a few. They inspire me daily and I'm lucky to know them.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT ADHESIVE?

Maybe it was Celeste Holt-Walters or Shab that introduced me to the event. I think I've been going to Adhesive from the beginning. I've always thought it was an amazing idea and I've had SO much fun at them over the years!

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

Transform how people relate to beauty through wellbeing. I use natural products in my makeup kit -- something almost unheard of in the industry -- and I'm passionate about helping the everyday woman embrace and enhance her unique beauty.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

The first time I saw a TV makeover I was transfixed and knew I wanted to be a makeup artist. I poured over every instructional material I could find. Later, I worked selling makeup and then designing products for a cosmetics brand. Finally, I threw caution to the wind and decided to be a freelance artist full-time.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

Hands down it was spending the day doing makeup for supermodel Karlie Kloss in September. She was named the new beauty spokesperson for L'Oreal Paris and chose to work with me given our past run-ins at fashion weeks around the world, and because she and I both share a very health-conscious lifestyle.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO IN THE INDUSTRY?

There have been so many supporters over the years, it's just too hard to name one person. Each of them in their own ways -- whether it felt good at the time or not -- helped me to become stronger and more confident in my art.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT ADHESIVE?

I found Adhesive in the summer of 2009 after just having moved to NYC from Milan. I can't remember who introduced me to the group, but I do recall the faces of the ever-present founders and members who I'm still connected to like Tony Gale, Toto Cullen, Braden Summers, Charlie Maria, David Paul Larson and more! Honestly, Adhesive was the glue (pun intended) that held me together as a new freelancer on the scene. I am forever grateful for the connections I have made at those events.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

My mission is to create that liminal moment when my audience is taken out of the mundane and (re)awakened to their desires to seek out beauty.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I am a professional photographer, an artist, inspiring romance through narrative portraiture.  The need to create was in my blood, it took years to discover that photography is the medium best suited to bring my visions to fruition.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

My proudest professional achievement this year is two fold: Watching my personal series ALL LOVE IS EQUAL, which illustrates same-sex romance on a global scale, go viral and then continuing that vision on a commercial level for the Marriott International hotel brand by photographing their #LoveTravels campaign.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO IN THE INDUSTRY?

I would have to say my producer friend Greg Jaroszewski. He traveled with me to produce ALL LOVE IS EQUAL. Without his help I don't think that this series would exist.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT ADHESIVE?

I was introduced to Adhesive through a wardrobe stylist friend Erin (Charest) Hall who I went to high school with.  I went solo to my first event at the bar Honey at the end of April 2009.
