WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MISSION?

If you would have asked the 15 years old Axel, he would said that he wanted to be a
portrait photographer in New York. So, I made it this far…

Now, the mission is to sustain and develop that activity, to get challenging jobs,
shoot interesting people, go to odd places, get more space in magazines and bigger
paychecks 'til I can finally afford to retire in St. Barth and drink frozen margaritas.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I am a portrait photographer, I shoot a lot of editorial and a little corporate, which doesn’t sound logical but makes me very happy. I always wanted to be a “press photographer."

Basically I was your typical nerd with a camera in high school, attended photo school in Paris, then assisted a bit, then found a full time catalogue gig, but soon discovered catalogue was boring as shit, got extremely depressed, had a really early mid-life crisis, escaped France in 2005, lived happily ever after, at times in very small apartments. It was a tad more complicated than that but you told me to keep it under 50 words.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

The dude definitely!!! Jeff Bridges for WSJ.

ANY PERSON YOU WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO IN THE INDUSTRY?

Definitely Maggie Soladay at American Lawyer who has been really supportive ever
since I got to New York, hiring me and recommending me to most of my regular editorial
clients. Leslie Dela Vega who let me follow her from job to job, from Fast Company to
rollingstone.com. More recently, Ronnie Weil at WSJ, who started trusting me with bigger
“personalities” like Jeff Bridges above, Christoph Waltz and well… Sarah Palin…

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT ADHESIVE?

I am not exactly sure how I started going, but I remember it was at Sweet & Vicious in 2008, and the frozen margaritas were succulent. I am actually considering retiring there if I come up short for St. Barth.
